Town Hall for Hope - Dave Ramsey

Dave Ramsey

Hey Southside!

I know that many of you are struggling right now with the current recession. A couple of years ago Angel and I took Dave's "Financial Peace University". We found it to be a very good class that was helpful in showing us how to manage our finances.

If you are at a place where you are not sure what to do next, I would like to recommend a good book for you to read, "Total Money Makeover". You can find the book for $6 at:

Amazon

I will also be a host for the FREE live event that Dave is doing on 4.29.09. You are all invited to watch Dave at my house and bring a friend or family member with you.

These are tough times and as the church we have got to get ourselves together so that we can be there to help others when everything falls apart!

Focus!

Easter Kindness Outreach = Servant Evangelism

Easter is just a few weeks away and it is going to be a great celebration!

I wanted to take some time this week and let you know what we are going to be doing at Southside for Easter.

Saturday April 11th between the hours of 11am and 3pm we will be teaming up with Texaco (the one that is by Napa) to do a “Gas Buy Down”. A gas buy down is where we (Southside) pay $.25 of every gallon of gas that people buy between the hours of 11 and 3, up to our budget of $500 or 3pm whichever comes first. A $500 dollar budget will allow us to “buy down” the cost of 2,000 gallons of gas!
We need a few Southsiders to “work” at the station for those hours to wash people’s windshields and to give them an invite to the Easter Sunday Service. Also, the week before we are going to need a LOT of volunteers to canvas the neighborhood with door hangers to tell our neighbors about the gas buy down and inviting them to the Easter Service. At this time in our nation with the economy the way it is, we feel that this will be a great servant evangelism project.
Easter Sunday we will start a new 5 week series called, “how to know God’s will for your life”. After the service we will have a celebration with Baptisms, (if you or someone you know needs to be baptized, please let me know) a Free BBQ and then an Easter Egg Hunt!!!
It is going to be a great weekend and I hope you have been thinking about who you can invite. There will be door hanger invites available for you to use in inviting your friends and neighbors. I am going to hang some in my neighborhood!
Questions or comments can be sent to me at: pastorwilly@qwestoffice.net
God bless you as you reflect on what He did for us on the Cross,
Pastor Willy

P.S. Jusf for fun again!

Community Groups Update!!!

Well the Strategic Planning Team has been working hard to craft a Community Group experience that is sure to be life changing! Not just for Southsiders but for our community as well.

Let me give you a little pre-view to whet your appetite! This summer we will be starting our first four community groups. We are going to focus them on making new friendships and strengthening community.

We are going to be working with the Community Group Leaders to plan all kinds of friendship building times. BBQs, Hikes, Bowling, Bike Riding, Softball, Movies, Pick-Nicks and anything else that creates a space where we can build community!

The groups will meet for 12 weeks; from June until the end of August.

Now you are probably wondering how this will be life changing for our community? Good question!

We are going to make this summer a "Summer of Service" where each one of the 4 Community groups participates in 3 servant evangelism projects over the summer.

These can be as simple as handing out water in the park on a hot day with a Southside invite card. What if your group threw a block party, or washed everyone’s car on your block? What if your whole group volunteered with Love Inc. for a day?

Maybe your group wants to Adopt-A-Friend: Someone in the group knows of a person that is struggling, your group could bring them groceries, fill their gas tank or help them around their house.

Each one of the groups will receive a list of ideas and all your group has to do is choose three that you want to do over the summer.

Community Groups Summer Term lasts for 12 weeks, June through August.

Four Community groups serving three weeks each equals 12 weeks of service or as I like to call it, "A Summer of Service".

I believe that as we join together and bless Newberg, we are going to make new friendships and see lives changed.

This is EXACTLY what God is calling us to do and I am so excited for this to get started I can hardly sit still.

Looking forward to getting to know YOU better this summer,

Pastor Willy

P.S. if you have questions about community groups feel free to send me an email. We will be sharing ALOT about community groups and how you can plug into one this May.

And just for fun:
